Acupuncture and CST for Pregnancy

Acupuncture and Craniosacral Therapy (CST), either individually or in combination, can provide valuable support throughout pregnancy.

During this time, your body undergoes enormous change as it nurtures and grows a new life. Increased demands are placed on your energy levels, circulation, and blood supply, while hormonal shifts and the softening of connective tissues prepare the body to accommodate your growing baby and, ultimately, birth.

Pregnancy can also bring a range of physical and emotional challenges. Digestive changes such as nausea, altered bowel movements, heartburn, and acid reflux are common, as are changes in sleep patterns. Physical discomforts may include back, rib, and neck pain, pubic symphysis pain, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, and sciatica. Alongside these changes, there can be emotional and mental adjustments as you prepare for the arrival of your baby and the transition into parenthood.

There are also key stages during pregnancy when supportive treatments may be particularly beneficial. Foetal strengthening treatments are often recommended at around 13 weeks and again at 26 weeks.

The aim of these sessions is to support your body’s natural adaptability, helping to minimise discomfort and exhaustion while replenishing your energy reserves. Treatment can help maintain balance and alignment in preparation for the physical demands of labour and birth, while also nurturing the instinctive bond between mother and baby.

As a general guide, treatment usually begins after your 12–13-week scan. From then on, monthly sessions are often sufficient, unless a specific concern would benefit from more frequent support.

"I met Fiona towards the end of my first pregnancy. She supported me until I gave birth and during the post partum. She looked after me throughout my second pregnancy too and I've never felt better in my whole life. Despite having 2 unwanted C-sections she treated me for the recovery which was extremely quick and supported with my milk supply. I will never recommend her enough.

She also treated my children as newborns and young children as well as my parents and I saw the results every single time. She is a fantastic therapist."
