What is a session like?

Your first appointment is always longer as initially we sit and talk about what has brought you to come for a session in the first place. As well as asking questions about the present situation, I ask about your past, if you’ve had accidents, operations, illnesses, your birth stories, any emotional shocks and medical/family history.

The session continues with you lying down on the couch, fully dressed and I begin by holding your feet and feeling into your body tissues. I’ll check movement and craniosacral rhythm in key places such as the hips, shoulders and head and then place my hands above and below wherever I feel is the place to begin, whilst sitting by your side. During the session I ask more questions, and we talk and as we talk I can feel how your body responds, since your body holds memory.

Sometimes acupuncture is appropriate/or has been requested. So, I pause to take the pulses at the wrist and place the needles in the body, which remain for 21 minutes. And the craniosacral therapy session continues.

Because I am reorganising a ‘disorganised’ body (we all make physical adaptions), there is a chance you may feel lightheaded, tired and achy after a session. It’s best to float home, rest, have a hot shower and take it slowly. The integration of the changes after a session can take up to 3 days and at that point, it is a good time to evaluate how you feel. I normally ask to see you 2 weeks after the initial appointment, since change has started, its best to use the momentum by not leaving it too long.

What is a session like for a baby?

Similarly, the first appointment is longer so we can sit and talk about your conception, pregnancy and birth of your little one. The extra time also allows for feeding, nappy changing and soothing. I can treat your baby whilst they are awake or asleep, in mum’s arms or lying on the couch. And I work around you and your baby to make it as undisruptive as possible.
